Christian Council Orders PURC To Reverse 'Insensitive And Unfortunate' Utility Hikes

The Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC) has been ordered by the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) to as a matter of urgency, reverse its decision to increase utility prices.  

The Christian Council in a statement has argued that the hike in utility prices is severely insensitive, unfortunate and must quickly be reversed considering the economic hardships Ghanaians are currently faced with.

The (PURC) increased electricity and water tariffs by over 60 percent effective December 14th following a nationwide what authorities justify to be a public consultation for the adjustment of utility tariffs.In the announcement made, the PURC revealed that electricity will be increased by 59.2 percent while water by about 67.2 percent.

Meanwhile, Director of Public Affairs of the PURC, Nana Yaa Jantuah explains the reasons for the increment is to enhance consumer interest, investor interest, economic development of the country, generation mix, and availability of the service among others .
