Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has thrown his support behind Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho as the Blues continue to struggle in the league.
Wenger and Mourinho are well known enemies in football but the Gunners boss has put aside his ideological differences with Mourinho to back him by saying that the West Londoners will rediscover the form that helped them win the premier league the past season.
Chelsea are currently 16th in the league and sit just a point above the relegation zone. Asked whether the Blues are likely to be relegated at the end of the season, Wenger rubbished the suggestions and backed Mourinho to turn things around.
Wenger’s words come even after his relationship with Mourinho failed to heal. The two have crashed before on different occasions, with the last being Wenger shoving Mourinho on the touchline when Chelsea hosted Arsenal at Stamford Bridge last season.
The two were separated by a premier league official as tempers flared up. Mourinho’s Chelsea went on to win the game 2-0.
Mourinho has labelled Wenger a voyeur and a specialist in failure before, but his words seem to be haunting him back after his side failed to live up to last season’s form.
Mourinho is currently under pressure after Chelsea suffered their ninth defeat of the season in the hands of inform Leicester City, who went on to top the league.
The Chelsea board held a crisis meeting on Wednesday, December 16, but what was discussed has not been made public. However, grapevine has it that Mourinho’s replacement has already been identified in case Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich decides to pull the trigger on the Portuguese tactician.
Mourinho is believed to be surviving to date at Chelsea thanks to the success he has previously brought to the club. He is arguably the most successful manager the club has ever had.
Whether he will be available over the next weekend when Chelsea welcome fellow strugglers Sunderland is a question for another day.
