Destiny Cheneze Chinaka, a Nigerian has been handed a 12-year jail term by an Accra circuit court on Tuesday for robbing a sales girl of GH 10,000 intended to be deposited into a bank account.
Police (ASP) Patience Mario said on the morning of August 12, this year, the complainant Ms Abrabra was sent to deposit the said amount into an account at the SG-SSB Bank, Pig Farm branch.
A few meters to the bank, Chinaka, a carpenter, dashed towards the complainant and snatched the money, and quickly bolted on a waiting motor bike.
However, a Zoomlion truck driver suddenly crossed the convict and the motor rider, leaving Chinaka sprawling on the ground with the motor rider escaping.
Chinaka run to the Pig Farm Total Filling Station where he was nabbed and escorted to the Kotobabi Police Station.
The court presided over by Mrs Aboagye Tandoh convicted Chinaka after the court had found him guilty on the charge of robbery.
The counsel for the convict, Mr Assamaney tried convincing the court to deal leniently with Chinaka but was not successful.
According to him, Chinaka was married with a child and was the bread winner of the family, and as a first time offender, he prayed the court give him a less harsher punishment.
However the judge would have none of these and sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment.
Meanwhile, ASP Patience Moro said the run-away accomplice to the convict is being sought after, and would be prosecuted when arrested.
