Ghana’s biggest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will today hold its 15extraordinary national delegates congress in the Brong Ahafo Regional capital, Sunyani.
Saturday’s event will amongst others also see the party outdoor its campaign team for the 2016 general elections.
The ceremony which will take place at the Sunyani Coronation Park will have all of the party’s big-shots present. They include: flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate, Dr. Mamahudu Bawumia, former president John Kufour, all of the NPP’s Members of Parliament, etc.
Over 2000 delegates are expected to attend the conference.
Meanwhile the Sunyani Traditional Council has denied reports that had plans to stop the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from holding its extraordinary delegates’ conference in the Brong Ahafo region.
The Krontihene of the Council, Nana Bofotia Boamponsem II told Citi News, the Chiefs officially have no knowledge of the programme and cannot hold a meeting to prevent it.
“If they know Nananom [Chiefs] are here and the land belongs to somebody, and they have the respect and recognition for the owners of the land, it is a must for them to go there. And so if they are coming to do something and they haven’t communicated anything to us yet, it shows that we officially don’t know anything about the programme they are coming to do”, he said.
There were earlier reports that the Chiefs were in a crunch meeting on Friday morning to stop the delegates’ conference scheduled to take place at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
