Students In Wa West District Prefer Fishing To Going To School

A teacher at Kandeu Basic Scool, in the Wa West District, Ibrahim Abdulai, has alleged at a Public Accountability Forum, that students of Talawona Primary prefer fishing to education.

Abdulai made the claim at the forum organized by the District Assembly at the forecourt of the Wechiau Naa’s palace where he questioned the usefulness of a six- unit classroom block the Wa West District Assembly plans to construct for the school.

According to him, the school drop-out situation in the district was so alarming that he fears the school would be closed down if something is not done about it.

Mr Abulai, therefore called on the Assembly to run advocacy programs for the people to appreciate the importance of education, before committing huge resources to put up a classroom block, which eventually would become a 'white elephant'.

However, there was a quick rebuff of the claim of the teacher by Jorbontey Joseph, the Assemblyman for Tokali Electoral Area and a native of Talawona.

He felt if more resources were rather diverted into schools infrastructures, students would be attracted to enroll and that the current situation did not look bleak as portrayed by Ibrahim Abdulai.
