Power Minister, Dr. Kwabena Donkor has reviewed his promise of ending load shedding by December 31, 2015.
The Minister who made a promise to end the current load shedding menace in the country earlier in the year or resign, told the Government Assurances Committee of Parliament Wednesday that even though he stands by his earlier promise, he will need a two extension.
According to Dr. Donkor the situation will be a thing of the past in the New Year, instead.
“All things being equal, at the end of this year… that is seven days from today, the load shedding will end. But the only caveat I will throw in is that the end of the year can move up to about two weeks of the New Year.
“In the context and a broader understanding of issues a two-week slippage will still be the end of the year,” he said.
The Power Minister also told the committee that the controversial AMERI deal is the cheapest Ghana has ever engaged in.
“I must state on record that AMERI is the cheapest plant we have in the country. It is cheaper than all the other plants in the country. In terms of thermal plants, it is the cheapest and offers the best in terms of tariff charges,” he stated.
He concluded that AMERI deal is very prudent and offers the best price.
