Dynamite Explosion Kills One Person; Residents Flee Area

One person, Ibrahim Mohammed, 38 died when a dynamite exploded in Nsawam-Adoagyiri in the Eastern region of Ghana on Wednesday December 23, 2015.

The situation has left scared residents flee the Paebo township. “Some have fled their homes, and the scene has also been declared a no go area”, a resident, Dorcas Peggy told Kasapa FM.

According to reports there was a blast from a quarry site at Paebo, along the Adeiso road, suspected to have occurred as a result of a naked fire getting into contact with ammonium dynamite.

About 20 casualties have been admitted at the Nsawam Government Hospital while several others were also referred to nearby facilities.

The devastation caused several injuries while substantial properties have also been lost through the incident Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile the police have declared the area where the blast happened as a no go area. According to the police investigations are underway; to determine the cause of the explosion.

Also, Eastern  Region Minister, Mr Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, says the owner of the quarry did not observe the required safety measures." The necessary measures are being taken to prevent a repeat of any such occurence in future.
