The Asamankese magistrate court has sentenced a man, Ofosu Agyei, who posed as an official of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and succeeded in duping five people of GHȼ1,650.00 to 24 months imprisonment.
The court also ordered the 35 year-old electrician to pay back the money collected from the victims who he swindled under the pretext of supplying them with electricity meters at Oseanase, near Asamankase.
The police chief inspector, Samuel Tetteh told the court presided over by Mr Charles Wiafe that that the convict, succeeded in convincing the victims that he was a staff at the electricity company and could get them meters for power supply.
After several attempts to get the services of the said meters failed, the five victims reported the matter to the Asamankese office of the company who caused his arrest immediately.
The court charged him with defrauding by false pretense after he pleaded guilty.
