A teacher in the Northern region of Ghana has been arrested for defiling nine pupils.
According to the police, the suspect, David Ananga was reportedly transferred from from another primary school for attempting to abort the pregnancy of another pupil.
Meanwhile, authorities of the school he teaches are being questioned for shielding the teacher.
Ananga is currently in police custody together with his accomplice, Frederick Akoto who allegedly made his room available for the act.
The Northern Regional coordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, ASP Emmanuel Holortu in an interview with Starr News said the suspect has been charged with rape, causing illegal abortion and abetment of crime.
About 290 rape and 1,111 defilement cases were reported to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service in 2014.
According to the deputy minister of Gender, and Social Protection, Mr John Alexander Ackon, the data represented only reported cases.
At least 17,655 domestic violence cases were reported to DOVVSU in 2014.
