GPRTU Threatens To Increase Transport Fares Should Gov't Increase Fuel Prices

GPRTU Threatens To Increase Transport Fares Should Gov't Increase Fuel Prices

Following an official announcement by government over the increment on prices of fuel by 18 to 27 percent on Monday, January 4, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has warned of a possible adjustment of transport fares should the increment by government be effected.

National Chairman of the GPRTU, Kwame Kuma explained their decision remains final as previous increment in the prices of fuel had not affected the prices of fuel since the third and fourth quarter of 2015.

The passage of the Energy Sector Levy (ESL) by Parliament in December 2015 is reported to have triggered the fuel increment. Meanwhile, government is yet to comment on the decision by the GPRTU.
