The police in Abuakwa has picked up Bismark Owusu a suspected mastermind of an armed robbery incident which led to the death of one Kwame Boateng, a resident of Bokankye in the Atwima Nwabiagya District in Ashanti Region last Saturday.
30-year-old Owusu, who was once an errand boy for the robbery victim, Antwi Boasiako who works with New Mont Gold Mining Company, is believed to be the brain behind the attack on Saturday, January 2.
Kwame Boateng was shot dead when he arrived at the gate of Boasiako who had been robbed of two laptops, cash of GH₵1,000, and six mobile phones. Whilst fleeing after their operation, Kwame bumped into them at Boasiako, the robbery victim’s gate where he had arrived on a visit. The suspects with their hoods off, was identified by him and as he shouted after them, they returned and shot him for fear of being reported to the police.
The Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Mohammed Yussif Tanko, told the Daily Graphic that the armed robbers, numbering five, broke into Boasiako’s house and robbed him at about 7:30 pm, during a blackout.
The gang who were armed with two AK47 rifles also made away with other valuable items.
According to the police, Owusu was later picked up because he knew the house and the movement of the victim.
A taxi driver, who appeared on the scene, picked up Boateng to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where he died on arrival.
The taxi driver said Boateng allegedly told him before dying that he suspected he was shot because he was able to identify the robbers.
Sadly however, Boateng could not tell the driver the identities of the suspects before passing out.
