Military Officer Arrested For Snatching Taxicab

The Greater Accra Regional police command have arrested a serving military officer who carjacked a taxi cab driver.

Lance Coproral Fiaku Micheal, 24  and his accomplice Baffoe Archer, 24, snatched the cab from the taxi driver at gun point.

They were arrested when they attempted to sell the vehicle  on December 30, 2015, in Adabraka, Accra.

Briefing the media in Accra deputy Accra regional police commander, ACP Timothy Bonga said: The two suspects hired the taxi cab from Tudu to the Castle area in Osu, but while on their way, the Lance Corporal Quarcoo asked the cab driver to pull over so he (Officer) could use the washroom at the Independence Square.

The military officer returned minutes later from the washroom with a gun and with the help of his accomplice ordered the driver to hand over the vehicle.

Meanwhile the police are currently looking for a third suspect,Richard Opoku Asamoah who is on the run.

Car snatching is fast becoming a well organized, booming and attractive venture for criminals. It is considered as one of the dangerous and heinous crimes against persons and properties.

In 2013, the Greater Accra Regional Police Command alone recorded 116 cases of car snatching. The figures may be a bit frightening but they are real.
