Ghana’s forest reserve in the heart of the city,Accra is on fire. Reports on the wire indicate that a raging fire is sweeping through the Achimota Forest.
According to eye witnesses, the blaze started earlier on Friday afternoon. Fire personnel and police are at the scene dousing the fire and ensuring order.
The cause of the fire is not known at the moment, but eyewitness says the due to the Harmattan weather, the firemen are struggling to quench the fire.
The fire is said to be spreading towards the Achimota Police Station and the buildings close to it.
The Achimota Forest Reserve is a place for prayer camps, camping, walking, and training grounds for some security companies. Not ideal for tourists. It has a length of 16.2 kilometres.
