Heroic Taxi Driver Applauded By Rawlings

The taxi left damaged after driver pushed robbers into a gutter leading to their arrest

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has applauded the heroics of the taxi driver who knocked down two armed robbers who shot and robbed a lady in Cantonments on Saturday morning.

According to the former president Ghana need such bold and brave men. “The boldness exhibited by the taxi driver was truly heroic and patriotic. At the risk of his own life he confronted these armed men, damaged his taxi in the process and ensured they did not escape the law. We should all applaud his courage. The two men deserve national recognition for their bravery,” he said.

He also praised a soldier who intervened after driver’s action.

The victim of the robbery is said to be a salesgirl at the Koala Supermarket in Osu.

The taxi driver bumped into the robbers who were fleeing on their motorbike. Then a soldier who was passing by helped to arrest them.

Meanwhile the police say a supervisor at the Cantonments Branch of the Koala Shopping Mall, masterminded the robbery attack.

Greater Accra Region Police Public Relations Officer ASP Afia Tenge told Joy News, Gilbert Osabutey allegedly gave information to the two armed robbers leading to an attack on a colleague who was on her way to deposit money at the bank.

“The police preliminary investigations indicate that the entire robbery was masterminded by the supervisor of the Koala Shopping Mall,” ASP Afia Tenge said.

The victim [girl] is undergoing treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
