President John Dramani Mahama has vehemently denied any relationship with alleged fraudulent microfinance institution, DKM in the Brong Afhafo region.
Speaking at a media encounter at the Flagstaff House, Tuesday, President Mahama stated categorically neither he nor any member of his family has ties with the owner of DKM Microfinance.
“I don’t know DKM from Adam, my wife doesn’t know DKM from Adam. I only got to see him in the papers today after his arrest by the BNI but yet we are being linked to him, he said.
DKM Microfinance are facing turbulent times, as it's unable to account for funds and deposits of customers.
This led to a closure of the DKM and other microfinance institutions. The central bank clamp-down on over hundred microfinance institutions across the country for operating without the requisite licence.
The BNI intervened and arrested the owners of these ‘fraudulent’ microfinance institutions.
President John Mahama however, during his interaction with the press expressed surprise that some political opponents are linking him and his family to one of the companies.
He also advised Ghanaians to be vigilant and prudent in dealing with some, especially the dubious microfinance entities ”...If anybody promises I will give you 50% interest on your money, just know that he’s fooling you,” the President stated.
Meanwhile the Bank of Ghana is also denying keeping liquidity of microfinance institutions. Also the BNI has arrested the owner of the DKM microfinance and other managers of the facility.
