Food Vendors At Kwame Nkrumah Circle Prepare Meals With Water Hydrants

Media investigations reveal that several food vendors at Tip-Toe Lane in Kwame Nkrumah Circle are using water from fire hydrants to prepare meals for the commercial consumption of the general public as food vendors argue that their move is mainly because of the lack of portable water supply in the area.

The Ghana Fire Service (GFS) uses the various fire-hydrants in and around the city as back-ups in fighting fire in several cases of fire outbreaks but also have had difficulties assessing some of the hydrants due to dumping of refuse on them (the hydrants) by individuals to conceal them.

The disturbing revelation is feared to increase the spate of  cholera outbreaks which is feared to have affected over 5000 children and thousands of adults in 2015.

The ministry of health together with the Food and Drugs Authority are yet to officially comment on the development.
