Guantanamo Detainees Need No Compassion - Head Of Catholic Bishops Argues

Head of the Catholic Bishops Conference, Rev Joseph Osei Bonsu

Head of the Catholic Bishops Conference, Rev Joseph Osei Bonsu has argued that the two detainees from the Guantanamo Bay Prison do not need the compassion of Ghanaians and that they they need to, as a matter of urgency get repatriated to their countries.

Reacting to President Mahama's insistence on Ghanaians to show compassion to the detainees, Mahmud Umar Muhammad Bin Atef and Khalid Muhammad Salih Al-Dhuby, Rev Joseph Osei Bonsu argued that Ghana would not need to misplace the religious duty of compassion with the harm of terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops Conference have released a statement describing government’s move to accept the detainees as “wrong” and “dangerous.” Meanwhile, the detainees, have allayed the fears of Ghanaians, saying they will not cause any harm during their two year stay in Ghana.
