The headmaster of Mfanstipim Senior High School, John Kwamina Ankomah Simpson has been asked to “step aside” with immediate effect for charging illegal fees.
The directive came from the Ghana Education Service.
According to a letter dated December 22, 2015 and addressed to the headmaster of the school, Mr. Ankomah Simpson was asked to hand over to the Central Regional Director of Education.
“As a result of the collection of illegal fees from students of Mfantsipim School, you are directed to immediately step aside from responsibilities as the Headmaster of the school, pending further investigations into the illegal collection,” the statement for the GES stated.
The Ghana Education Service ordered all senior high school heads to desist from charging unapproved fees last year.
In 2015 some headteachers of some basic schools were demoted by the GES for overcharging the registration fees for Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
The GES has approved fees for second-cycle institutions for the 2015/16 academic year.
