Iran Frees US Sailors Held In Gulf

A US official has confirmed the release of 10 United States sailors held in the Gulf by Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

The US sailors were held for entering the territorial waters of Iran in the Gulf. According to state television that confirmed the news to Reuters agency, the sailors were detained on Tuesday after one of their two vessels broke down during a training mission.

In a statement read on state media, it noted that the group was released into international waters after apologizing and that the Revolutionary Guards see the incursion as "unintentional".

Earlier, the naval commander of the Guards, General Ali Fadavi, said investigations found a navigational failure as the reason for entering the territorial waters of the Gulf.

This development comes at a sensitive time, as the US and Iran are trying  to implement the deal on Iran's nuclear activities.
