Shatta Wale in a latest interview has revealed he used to smoke “weed” excessively.
According to the self-acclaimed dancehall king, his excessive use of weed started after he went into what he calls hibernation after his smash hit Moko Hoo .
He said during those period in his life that he was in exile, he learnt music production. He also went into introspection and asked himself why his music was not doing well, he said in an Adom FM interview.
“After 2003, I went into exile. That time I used to smoke a lot.” He told Adom FM. “The weed I have smoked is more than three commercial bank buildings. But as you grow you need to change. I don’t smoke anymore.”
Shatta Wale noted that he quit smoking due to the fact that he made a covenant with God to quit smoking weed, so that God will help him make an impact with his songs.
“I felt I had to get a covenant with God because I didn’t understa nd why I could play all those beats but my songs weren’t making hits. So I promised God that if he gave me another chance I will change a lot of things about my life and I made sure I mentioned his name in all my songs, and I got the big song finally.
“If you give me weed now I can’t smoke it. I wasn’t addicted to the weed though but whenever I smoked, I wasn’t paid for the high I was getting and I realized I was very energetic on stage so I tried to stop to see how well I will do on stage and I was still energetic”.
According to him, he quit smoking weed in 2013. Shatta Wale has won multiple awards after rebranding from Bandana to Shatta Wale.
