Police Kill Fulani Robber In Gunfire Exchange

A highway police team was caught in an exchange of gunfire with three suspected armed robbers on Thursday dawn at Banda Nkwanta on the Bole-Bamboi road which led to the death of one of the robbers.

According to the Northern regional police PRO, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the robbers, said to be Fulani herdsmen, shot at police men who arrived at a location where they had taken a Kumasi-Wa bound Benz Bus hostage and robbed the passengers.

While in the process of the robbery, a police patrol team arrived at the scene after a distress call had been placed to them.

On seeing the police, the robbers were said to have shot at them and the police responded which led to the death of one of the robbers with the other two escaping through the bush.

Mr Tetteh said on Sunday January 17, 2016 a similar incident happened on the same road in which the robbers attacked a Kumasi-Wa bound passenger bus which had a police man on board. They could not rob the passengers and instead shot and injured the police officer.

He said the policeman was responding to treatment at the Wenchi Hospital while the remains of the deceased, has since been deposited at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital morgue in the Brong Ahafo Region.
