Microfinance Blues: ‘Kidnaper’ Sentenced 5 Years

A 22-year-old  customer of Jastar Motors [one of the microfinance companies involved in scam] has been given a five-year jail term for kidnapping by the Techiman Circuit Court.

Eric Otu according to the police prosecutor kidnapped the daughter of Jerryson FM presenter Emmanuel Anyaba as a way of retrieving his money from the Jastar microfinance company which owns the radio station.

According to the judge who sat on the case, Her Lordship Joan Eyi King she was considerate with her verdict because of the health status of the convict’s grandmother who was fond of him.

Eric pleaded with the court for mercy, but the judge ignored his plea and sentenced him to five years.

The company has been unable to resettle its customers who deposited their monies with them. Meanwhile the Chief Executive Officer of Jastar Motors, Charles Asu, and three others have been granted bail by an Accra Circuit court.
