Kumasi Traders Refuses NDC Women's Wing Gift

The National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Ashanti Regional wing seems to have incurred the displeasure of traders of the Kumasi Central Market who are mostly women.

The Ashanti Regional NDC through its women’s organizer, Hajiya Sadique presented the items to the traders who were affected by the recent outbreak in the Kumasi Metropolis.

The affected traders were said to have suffered huge losses when fire gutted about 400 stores in the Kumasi Central Market fire incidence some few days ago.

Hajiya Sadique reportedly made the presentation on behalf of her party at the market as the NDC’s widow’s mite for the women who lost foodstuffs and other valuable items that they kept in the stores, which were gutted by the ferocious fire in the unfortunate incidence.

The items comprised of 60 bags of rice, some bags of maize, mosquito nets, gallons of cooking oil and second-hand clothing to the fire victims.

But the angry traders surprisingly rejected the items of the ruling party allegedly claiming that they did not need such items, but rather needed roofing sheets and wood to reconstruct their stores and not the worm infested maize presented to them.

According to the traders, the maize presented by the NDC was infested with worms. They also claimed that the rice was substandard.

Meanwhile, Hajiya Sadique, speaking on Otec FM, expressed shock about the attitude of the women, claiming that the traders welcomed her with open arms at the market and thanked her for the kind gesture by the NDC after the presentation earlier on.

She expressed the fear that the traders had politicized the issue, noting that the NDC as a party did nothing wrong by supporting Ghanaians, who had been affected by the fire outbreak.
