Pneumococcal Meningitis Kill Two In Ashanti Region

The Health Director for the Offinso Municipality in the Ashanti region, Beatrice Appah has confirmed the death of two people from the deadly  Pneumococcal Meningitis disease.

According to her the area has recorded four cases so far.

The Pneumococcal Meningitis disease has killed about 22 people in the Brong Ahafo and Northern regions since it outbreak

Meningitis is an infection and inflammation of the meninges. Your meninges are the membranes that cover your spinal cord and your brain. Meningitis can be caused by many different germs, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

Most forms of meningitis are caused by viral infections. Pneumococcal meningitis, however, is a bacterial form of meningitis. It’s a serious disease that can cause death even with proper treatment. If you suspect you may have pneumococcal meningitis, see a doctor right away.

Meanwhile the Health Ministry says they are in control of the outbreak.The Ministry deployed medical supplies to the two regions to treat patients battling Pneumococcal Meningitis for free.
