Who are the Usain Bolt of English Premier League? Manchester United forward Anthony Martial and Leicester striker Jamie Vardy have been identified as the fastest players in the Barclays Premier League this season.
EA Sports’ Player Performance Index reveals both players have recorded a speed of 22 miles per hour over five seconds, with Vardy setting the pace back in August, 2015 in Leicester’s 2-1 win at West Ham.
Vardy’s rapid sprint was matched by Martial in United’s 3-3 draw against Newcastle at St James’ Park in January.
Vardy’s Foxes team-mate Jeffrey Schlupp came third with a speed of 21.9mph, followed by Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker, Liverpool striker Divock Origi and Newcastle defender Paul Dummett coming fifth and sixth at 21.8mph respectively.
The EA Sports PPI is the EPL’s official rating index, that measures a player’s contribution to his team using six key indices. It aims to remove ‘any opinion bias and only work with proven statistical measurements’.
Some of other fastest players at Manchester United are Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Wayne Rooney.
The latest statistics clearly knock out Arsenal duo Theo Walcott and defender Hector Bellerin who have for a long time been considered the fastest players in the premier league.
The record was held for a long time by Walcott until when Bellerin emerged as being faster than his teammate.
