Tenants of dilapidated four-storey building ordered to move out

Tenants of a dilapidated four-storey building at Osu Alata in Accra have been ordered to vacate the building as the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) warns the flat is on the brink of collapse.

Expressing concerns over the dilapidated building, Assembly Member for Osu-Alata, Hubert Kpakpo Gershon fears structural capacity of the building only puts the lives of the tenants at the highest risk.

There have been a number of building collapses lately - the most recent one claimed the life of the former Vice President of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Prosper Adabla in July 2015. Meanwhile, engineer with the AMA, Felix Tettey has revealed they are only awaiting orders from the appropriate quarters to put down the dilapidated building.
