The British media have suggested one alternative after another as replacement for Van Gaal's job at Old Trafford and Mourinho has been tipped to take over the job.
As the pressure continues to mount on Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal to ‘voluntarily step aside’ for ousted Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, Van Gaal’s biographer, Maarten Meijer has insisted that the Dutchman is determined to fight on.
The embattled United boss has come under heavy criticisms after the recurrent poor performance which has dimmed their chances for the Premier League title challenge in the space of a month.
There are strong indications that Mourinho has been heavily tipped to succeed the under-attack United boss if he is laid off, as reports say the former Chelsea tactician is hopeful in getting the job.
Maarten said: “The two men retain a huge respect for each other. The British media have suggested one alternative after another as replacement,” he said.
“Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola are just some of the names that have been mentioned.
“The most surprising suggestion has been Jose Mourinho.
“This is the man who was fired mid-season, after taking Chelsea to the threshold of the relegation zone.
“Van Gaal and Mourinho are friends, but he is not going to step aside voluntarily for his Portuguese colleague, or for anyone else.”
