‘Juju’ or black magic is nothing new in Ghana football and the social fabric of Ghanaians.
A spiritualist in the Western region of Ghana, Mallam Isaka has revealed that Ghana defender, Rashid Sumaila was the cause of the injury suffered by teammate, Jerry Akaminko prior to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
It will be recalled that Akaminko was set to be included in the final squad that represented Ghana in the mundial until he picked up a strange injury during a friendly against Netherland weeks to the fifa showpiece in Brazil.
The Black Stars centre-back decided to make an aerial challenge against Arjen Robben in the friendly game against the Netherland.Jerry landed awkwardly from the challenge and had to be stretched off. And that was the end of the player’s dream to feature at the 2014 World Cup.
But Mallam Isaka in a radio interview on Takoradi based Kyzz FM said, Sumaila engaged his services to cause the injury of Akaminko. According to the spiritualist, he has come out now because Sumaila, who now plays in the Middle East, has failed to settle his end of the bargain.
“He [Rashid Sumaila] came to me for assistance ahead of the World Cup and I promised to help him,” Mallam Isaka said.
“I told him he could only get a position in the squad if one of the centre-backs is injured. He accepted and asked me to do it to Jerry Akaminko. So I made sure Akaminko was injured so that Rashid’s name will be in the squad. I am now saying this publicly because he has failed to pay me,” he continued.
Mallam Isaka went on to give Sumaila a week’s ultimatum, else he will make more staggering revelations about the player.
Meanwhile, Rashid Sumaila has come out to publicly deny the allegations made against him.
According to the defender, he is a faithful Muslim who does not believe in ‘juju’.
He also denied knowing the spiritualist. “I am a staunch Muslim and I don’t engage in that. I am shocked because I don’t know what he is talking about,” he told Ghanasoccernet in an interview.
