A Rapid Respond Team of the Forestry Commission in the Bekwai District have arrested eight people including five Chinese for illegally prospecting for gold in the Kobro portion of the Apamprama forest reserve in the Bekwai District of the Ashanti Region.
The eight Li Hang, Sasha Wu, Fung Mao, Zhang Ihai and Shaipam, all Chinese and their Ghanaian counterparts, Albert Ampong, Alfred Kwame Yankey and Iddi Bab were arrested by the task force who also seized two excavators that the illegal miners were using.
Mr Emmanuel Agyapong Donkor, the deputy District Forestry manager for Asante Beakwai who briefed news men, said the commission received intelligence about the activities and kept the minors under surveillance for close to two months.
However, on Friday, January 30, 2016, the task force got a hint that the group was moving towards the Apamprama forest with their excavators to mine and they quickly dispatched a team there to be on the lookout.

He said, true to their suspicion, they bumped into the miners busily working. They quickly informed the Rapid Respond Team who came in to effect their arrest.
The suspects have since been handed over to the police to be processed for court.
