The Ghana Chamber of Mines is warning the public against fraudsters who are parading as employees of the company.
According to the chamber these people are using the name of the company to scam and defraud innocent prospective gold buyers in Ghana and abroad.
“We’ve been receiving emails from individuals asking to buy gold from us and they need ‘X’ Kilograms of gold, and sometimes you receive e-mails from people with false certificated issued by the Chamber of Mines purported to have sold gold to individuals,” Head of Communication at the Chamber of Mines, Ahmed Nantogmah said in a statement.
He cautioned the public to be vigilant of such fraudsters. He noted that the Chamber does not deal in gold or sell gold.
“If you need to buy gold you have to go to the Mineral Commission or the PMMC. It has to be with either of these people,” he explained.
The Ghana Chamber of Mines is the main minerals industry association in Ghana. The Chamber is the umbrella body that represents the shared interests of companies involved in mineral exploration, production and processing in the country.
It was founded in 1928 and has its members accounting for over 90 percent of all of the country's mineral production.
