Crystal Palace and Togo striker Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor has donated two sets of jerseys to a local team, Team SEA in his neighbourhood, ‘Totsi” in Togo for making available their facilities whilst he needed to keep fit in anticipation of active club football.
The former Togo player’s became a free agent from Tottenham and as such stayed away from competitive football.
Adebayor terminated his contract with the Premiership side, in September 2015 and returned to Togo to cool off the pressure.
He trained with ‘Totsi,’ a semi-professional side to keep fit whilst he envisaged a move to another club. Adebayor signed for Crystal Palace whose trainer, Alan Pardew has described the former Arsenal striker as the best ever Crystal Palace player.
“When I was out there without club, the TeamSEA (Aka Totsi Team) always welcomed me in their team,” Adebayor said in a statement.
“This is a team from my neighbourhood in Togo with young talented players but also some experienced players”
“Playing with them everyday helped improve my match fitness and my mental strength. They supported me during the hard times and always prayed for me,” he noted
“We didn't always play on the best fields but we always played some high level football and kept it professional. They kept me going and I keep them going,” he said.
The home and away kit is specially designed for each member of the team.
“This set of jersey (Home/Away) is made for each player in the team. Thanks to all the players, staff and fans of the Team SEA!,” he added.
