- Commey tried to commit suicide after the hideous crime
Michael Commey, a 29-year-old bar attendant who attempted to kill his girlfriend by slitting her throat and later tried to commit suicide is in prison custody. Mr Commey is alleged to have attempted murdering the lady, Mercy Amarteifio after she denied him sex.
An Accra magistrate court presided over by Ms Arit Nsemoh has charged Commey with attempted murder and suicide.
Chief Inspector Gregory Yeboah in briefing the court, said Commey has been in a relationship with the victim, Mercy 29, for almost a year now.
On January 19, Mercy reportedly visited Commey who had informed her earlier of having lost his job as a bar attendant.
Mercy called on him the next morning to express her sympathy on his loss of his job at his residence near the Kaneshie Central Pentecost Church.
Commey then served Mercy with a bottle of beer and some food while he helped himself to a glass of beer and two shots of local gin, Akpeteshie.
Commey then locked the door and requested to have sex with Mercy, who turned his demand down on the excuse that she was not feeling well.
After persistent demand from him, Mercy took her bag to attend to nature’s call but Commey thinking it was a ploy to outwit him, forcibly engaged her in a scuffle where he pushed Mercy unto his bed and brought out a blade and slashed her throat in the struggle.
A neighbour, Kwesi Appiah who reported the incident to the police had to force Commey’s door opened with other witnesses after Mercy started screaming for help. Commey was found in the act of slitting Mercy’s throat and so the witnesses had to push him off her and immediately rushed her to the Cocoa Clinic, in Accra.
Commey who attempted to kill himself by slashing his stomach and throat with the blade was also rushed to the same clinic for treatment and later remanded to police custody.
Mercy has since been discharged from the hospital.
