The stray leopard which was seen attacking one of the men has been tranquilized and returned to its cage

An 8 year old male leopard has attacked and injured six forestry employees as it strayed into a school in the Indian city of Bangalore on Sunday.

The employees say the leopard,which encroached into the compound of the Vibgyor International school gave all six forestry employees a hard time as they tried to tranquilize and return it to its cage as footage on the school's security cameras showed it attacking a man near a swimming pool.

The men running from the stray leopard

Conservation scientist Sanjay Gubbi and forest department employee Benny Maurius were injured when they tried to corner the animal.

Meanwhile, senior police official S Boralingaiah revealed the dramatic incident to the BBC world service.

"It was a long struggle to capture the leopard. Although it was injected with tranquilizers it could be captured only around 20.15 local time when the medication took full effect," he revealed.

Leopards and other big cats have been known to stray into populated areas, and conservationists have warned that such confrontations may increase as humans encroach on animal habitats.
