A police constable said to be mentally deranged was shot in the leg on Monday evening when he attempted to forcibly enter the official residence of the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Kofi Boakye.
The police constable stationed at Bole in the Northern region, Constable Dennis Makagor was said to have engaged in exchanges with the armed police guard at the entrance of the police commander's house.
The Ashanti Regional Police, PRO ASP Yusif Mohammed Tanko, briefing newsmen said Constable Makagor demanded to see DCOP Boakye when he got to the entrance but was refused because the police commander was not around.
The police officer persisted and even engaged in a scuffle with the guard in order to enter the compound of the house.
In the ensuing struggle, the guard shot him in the leg, ASP Tanko told Graphic Online.
Constable Makagor was not armed when the incident happened.
The suspect is currently on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
