- Nike has terminated its relationship with Manny Pacquiao after world champion described homosexuals as “worse than animals”.

- Nike in a statement revealed that it strongly opposes “discrimination of any kind”.

- Pacquiao has been voicing his opposition for gay marriage.

Nike terminated its endorsement contract with boxer Manny Pacquiao

Sportswear company, Nike has cut ties with Manny Pacquiao following strong criticism to controversial remarks he made on the subject of same-sex marriage.

A statement released by Nike on Wednesday read: "We find Manny Pacquiao's comments abhorrent. Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.

"We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquiao."

The 37-year-old Filipino, who is running for senate in his homeland, suggested approval of same-sex marriage would show "man is worse than animal". Pacquiao issued an apology for his comments but clarified that he remains against same-sex marriage for religious reasons.
