The Electoral Commission has scheduled the Abuakwa North by-election in the Eastern Region for March 29.
The by-election follows the killing of the incumbent Member of Parliament for the constituency, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu on February 9, 2016 by assailants.
Following the death of the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu and in accordance with Article 112(5) of the Constitution, as amended, the Electoral Commission will hold a by-election in the constituency on Tuesday, the 29th Day of March, 2016, the statement revealed.
Meanwhile, nominations for the by-election will be taken on Tuesday the 1st day of March and Wednesday the 2nd day of March, 2016 at the District Office of the Commission at Tafo in the Eastern Region.
So far, the alleged suspected killer of the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North J.B. Danquah has been charged with murder by the police.
The 19-year-old suspect has been arraigned before an Accra magistrate court. The police prayed the court to remand the suspect while investigations continue. He has been remanded into police custody and the case adjourned to the 1st of March 2016.
