Following the killing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentarian for the Abuakwa North Constituency, JB Danquah Adu, the opposition party has elected a female teacher of the Akosombo International School, Gifty Twum Ampofo as the leader of the party ahead of the upcoming by-election in the area.
The nomination was made after the agile female politician and teacher of the AIS, Gifty Twum Ampofo won the primaries with 207 votes after beating her contenders, Kyei Brobbey and Isaac Osei Ampadu, who had 27 and 104 votes respectively.
Meanwhile the Electoral Commission has set Tuesday, March 29 as the exact date for the by-election in the constituency as the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) also puts aside its parliamentary candidate for the 2016 election in the person of Mr Anthony Osei Gyimah.
Till now, it remains unclear the motives behind the killing but police intelligence say the killer, ventured the residence of the MP mainly to steal and not with the intention of killing. JB Danquah’s death attracted severe outrage from all political divide with president Mahama and other politicians severely condemning the act.
