A Kotoko side acknowledging some cheers from their fans

Kumasi Asante Kotoko failed to pick their first win of the three-week-old Ghana Premier League (GPL) when they drew 2-2 with Medeama FC at the Baba Yara stadium on Sunday.

The Porcupine warriors came into this game having lost 2-0 to WAFA and an outstanding game in hand against Ashantigold FC.

They needed to win against a hungry Medeama who had had also lost to Ashgold and Hearts of Oak in their last two games.

Kotoko scored first through striker Bennett Ofori who capitalized on Medeama’s goalkeeper Michael Sai’s mistake to nod home the opener.

Midfielder Malik Akowuah equalized for Medeama with a brilliant strike from a free kick 30-yards away from Kotoko’s goal.

The two sides lost some key players to injuries during proceedings as neither side were ready to get their feet off the accelerator with the three maximum points as their goal.

Kotoko striker Dauda Mohammed, who just joined the team from an ankle injury, suffered a head injury and had to be replaced in the second half.

Medeama also lost defender Paul Aidoo who had to be replaced after he suffered an awkward injury.

Michael Yeboah scored Kotoko’s second goal on the 50th minute mark and could not hold on to the lead till the Mauves and Yellows equalised through a Bismark Oppong 74th minute strike.

Medeama could have carried the day but for the agility of goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi who stood in between Medeama and the third goal.

Both sides by the result now have a point each but Kotoko play Ashanti Gold on Wednesday at home and could earn a win over their regional rivals.
