Portugese giants Benfica are through to the quarter final of this season’s Uefa Champions League (UCL). The team defeated Zenit St. Petersburg 2 – 1 in a very pulsating affair in Petrovsky Stadium.

Zenit came into the second leg trailing 1 – 0 in which they needed to get at least a goal to take the game into extra time.
The first half of second leg was keenly contested as both teams played with much tactics and caution. However, Zenith came out blazing in the second half and their efforts paid-off as Brazilian striker Hulk headed home to put his side ahead and the aggregate score at 1 – 1 in the 69th minute.
‘Like a wounded lion’, Benfica launched massive attacks on Zenit St. Petersburg and after much pressure, Nicolas Gaitan headed home a rebound to gift his side the much needed away goal.
Anderson Talisca later took the game beyond the Russians with his side’s second goal with the last kick of the game. It ended Zenit St. Petersburg 1 – 2 Benfica (1 – 3 on aggregates).
