Over 50 shops affected by latest Kumasi Central Market fire

- The Kumasi Central Market has been burnt the third time this year

- The latest fire is believed to have affected over 50 shops

- The fire service and police are on the scene to ensure order and quench the fire

Over 50 shops affected by latest Kumasi Central Market fire

Over 50 shops at the 31st December section of the Kumasi Central market have been affected

The Ghana National Fire Service have managed to douse the fire that engulfed the Kumasi Central Market Friday morning.

The fire which started at around 5:30am was very difficult to quench because the fire personnel had found difficulty in accessing the market.

This is the third time fire has gutted that section of the market this year; unconfirmed reports say over 50 shops were affected by the latest fire.

According to the fire service the cause of the fire is currently unknown; they say the cause will be known after full investigations is done.

Items destroyed in the fire include plastic materials, cosmetics and mobile phones. 

Barely two months ago over 1,000 live birds were consumed by fire while hundreds of shops were destroyed in that same market.

Also only last night, fire gutted an apartment on the  Spintex road. The Thursday night fire destroyed several properties running into thousands of cedis.
