The Red Devils lost 2-0 to Liverpool last week at Anfield in a game which has since increased pressure from supporters on the Dutchman.

Manchester United were poor in the game and their last three matches as well has not been anything to write home about.

The under-fire manager and his playing body need to redeem their image and beat Liverpool but the task looks arduous since the pride in matches concerning the two teams will be enough motivation for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to keep their 2-0 win.

Van Gaal opined that the home support and the atmosphere at Anfield played to the advantage of his opponents and would relish same from his Theatre of Dreams supporters.

"It starts with the players, of course, but it starts also with the fans. They have a lot of impact on the pitch," Van Gaal said when asked about his expectations from his supporters.

He knows they have been in a situation like the one facing them. They were also 2-1 down to Danish side FC Midtjylland after the first leg in the previous round, before winning 5-1 in the second at Old Trafford.

They need to fight hard and rescue the tie, "We have to believe in it……I have spoken only with the players about the victory” Van Gaal said.
