A riot by students of the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) has resulted in the indefinite shut down of the school by school authorities.

The decision comes after irate students went on rampage and vandalized properties over a punishment meted out to them by the school authorities. In the process of the riots, the students destroyed properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis and chased out the wife of an assistant headmaster of the school.

A form three student who spoke to Starr News on condition of anonymity said the students started rioting around 8pm Saturday. According to him, the students completely destroyed the school’s computer laboratory, the notice board and windows of several classrooms.

A school authority told Starr News that the students also looted some items.

The irate students were rioting over a punishment given to them for being absent during a roll call session. Authorities of the school reportedly asked students to buy four bags of cement as punishment after they absented themselves from campus during the Independent day celebrations.

The students after several unsuccessful attempts to get the authorities to ease the punishment protested and started rioting.

Meanwhile, the Police has taken over the school to help restore calm and commence investigations into the matter.
