Avram Grant tips Ghana for first World Cup semi finals

Black Stars manager, Avram Grant has tipped his Ghanaian national team side as the likeliest African team that will make the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup finals.

The Israeli coach is confident the West African nation has the talent and quality to become the first African country to reach the semi-final of a FIFA World Cup final when the roll is called.

Ghana was just a penalty conversion away from a historic semi final berth in 2010, after brilliantly brushing aside well grilled opponents.

The Black Stars lost to a Uruguayan side when striker Asamoah Gyan flicked a last minute penalty in extra-time against the crossbar in the quarter-final tie.

The 2014 tournament in Brazil which was tied with player revolt over unpaid bonuses ended up in disaster as Ghana got bundled out from the Group stage.

However, the former Chelsea manager Grant, who has been in charge of the four-time African champions since December 2014, revealed to FIFA.com in an interview that Ghana have the potential to be among the best four teams in the world.

It’s very important to put up objectives. I know that it’s looking too far, but I think at the end of the road, Ghana can do it,” he said.

"There are other African teams that are very good. You can see if they will do one, two, three things, it’s achievable, so we need to do it!"

Grant and his Black Stars team look poised for another successful campaign having qualified for the Group stage of the qualifiers to the 2018 World Cup finals to be played in Russia.

The Black Stars will host the Mambas of Mozambique at the Accra Sports Stadium in the final phase of the AFCON group qualifiers on Thursday.
