Captain of the Ghana Black Stars Asamoah Gyan has been ruled out of the AFCON first leg qualifier against Mozambique.
According Pulse.com.gh sources the striker is down with an injury.
Gyan is reported to have picked up an injury during the team’s final training section in Accra Wednesday morning.
"We thought he could recover, but he needs a lot more time to recover so we have decided not to risk him at this stage," an un-named Black Stars official told Pulse.com.gh
Gyan has been plagued by injury worries in recent times leading to him missing national assignments against Rwanda.
He, however, looked to have recovered after featuring fully for his club Shanghai SIPG in the new season. Gyan is Ghana's all time top goal scorer with 48 goals.
The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches are organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to decide the participating teams of mundial.
A total of 16 teams will qualify to play in the final tournament, including Gabon who qualified automatically as hosts.
