The prosecution led by Detective Inspector Judith Asante reveals that the victim’s eye has now been totally damaged as the teacher has also denied the charge despite been admitted to bail in the sum of GHC10,000 with one surety.
Detective Inspector Asante says that in the process of flogging one of the pupils sitting next to the victim, the tip of the cane hit the right eye of the other pupil causing him severe pains. She added that the victim reported the incident to the head teacher of the school who gave him (victim) a painkiller.
Corporal punishment is documented to have been abolished by the Ghana Education Service as concerns over the emotional and physical damage caused pupils have been raised.
