Multiple award winner, John Dumelo has revealed that the tourism ambassador job given to him by the Minister of Tourism is purely voluntary.
He noted that the ministry is not paying him anything for his contribution to tourism and neither is he getting any gains out of his new role. He further added that he has always loved tourism and for that fact been a tourism advocate for the past five years.
Speaking in an interview with with HItz Fm after his appointment, John noted that he is of the belief that the ministry decided to make me a tourism ambassador because of his love for tourism. He noted that he will still continue visiting tourist sites in Ghana and share his experience on social media to allow people know of the wonderful places Ghana has.
This interview clears the air on some questions raised on social media as to what necessitated the move by the tourism ministry to honour the sector.

After news of his appointment went viral, social media platforms have been flooded with dissenting views on what necessitated the move. While some argued that it was politically motivated because if his affiliation to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), others opined he deserved it as he has been travelling across the globe and can sell the country better.
John Dumelo’s appointment has raised questions as to the ministry’s earlier decision to honour Abraham Attah for making Ghana proud. Readers are reminded that the Minister for Tourism, Mrs Ofosu Agyare some few days disclosed that, she will be hosting Abraham Attah with six(6) of his friends and family at the festival where she will hold discussions with him on a package that will see him become Ghana’s Tourism Ambassador.
As many wonder what might have happed to the young actor’s appointment, the Ministry is yet to react to the media rumour.
John Dumelo was made tourism ambassador for Ghana during the week and made his new appointment known on his official Facebook page when he wrote that “Happy to be appointed tourism ambassador by the Minister of tourism.
I’m happy to promote Tourism in Ghana and also sell Ghana to the rest of the world. #exploreghana #melomoment #melotourist”.
