- Their reasoon is to get the EC to have a new voter's register put in place for the 2016 elections
Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), has announced its intentions to embark on a demonstration on March 31.
The aim for the demonstration is to pressure the Electoral Commission (EC) to clean the voters’ register. According to the group, the EC has refused to heed calls by some political parties and pressure groups to have the voters’ register cleaned.
Leading member of LMVCA, Archibald Adams, said the EC has demonstrated that it is not interested in a clean register adding this is bad for the country’s democracy. According to him, the EC is supposed to be a referee in an election where NDC, NPP and all other parties [who] are vying for the position to run the affairs of this country”, he said.
Adams also said the Commission has refused to implement the recommendations of the Justice Crabbe committee set up to oversee the possibility of a new register and many other electoral issues.Adams disclosed to JOYNEWS that the Committee has suggested to the EC to conduct a voter validation to give the election process a clean bill of health but the Commission has refused to implement it.
He said the Commission is required by law to remain independent, but it has demonstrated that it is in bed with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC). He revealed the group has served the Ghana Police Service a letter of notice because of its respect for the laws of Ghana.
Adams also called on Ghanaians to join the group on the scheduled date to compel the Electoral Commission to respect the will of the people which is to clean the register.
