- Ghana and Mozambique drew 0-0
- Alfred Duncan and Ebenezer Assifuah started for Ghana
- Ghana accumulated 10 points from a possible 12
The Black Stars of Ghana held a determined Mozambican side to a pulsating 0-0 drawn game in a 2017 AFCON qualifier at the Estadio Nacional do Zimpeto in Maputo on Sunday.
Ghana came into the game a weakened side following the injury of Mubarak Wakaso and Frank Acheampong.
Coach Avram Grant was thus forced to hand starting roles to Sassoulo’s Alfred Duncan and inform Sion striker, Ebenezer Assifuah.
The Black Mambas piled early pressure in the game on the Black Stars and could have notched in a goal but their forward player, Dominguez played it wide.
Baba Rahman and Harrison Afful had some rough times on the flanks as the wide men of Mozambique, Lolo and Dominguez always played their forwards much deeper than the Ghanaian players could handle.
Ebenezer Assifuah, Jonathan Mensah and Jordan Ayew could all have scored for Ghana to get the team closer to an early qualification but missed the opportunities.
However, goalkeeper Soari pulled a wonderful save from John Boye later in the game to keep the score-line at 0-0.
Mozambique by this result has now picked their first point with the Black Stars earning ten points from a possible 12.
Ghana line up: Razak Brimah, Harrison Afful, Baba Rahman, Jonathan Mensah, John Boye, Afriyie Acquah, Alfred Duncan, Agyemang Badu, Ebenezer Assifuah, Jordan Ayew, Jeff Schlupp.
