The Accra Regional Police Command issued a security alert Thursday that asked motorists and passengers to be careful when the ply some parts of the capital.
The areas are: Graphic road (near the flyover); Awudome Cemetary Road; Accra Mall roundabout; La Beach (on the Teshie-Nungua road); George Walker Bush Highway (N1); and Pokuase-Amasaman Road.
In those areas, criminals tend to dispossess people of valuables such as phones, tablets and laptops at the least sign of distraction or inattentiveness, the police said.
The police said while it would take steps to boost security in those areas, there was the need for members of the public to be proactive by taking steps to protect themselves and their valuables.
It recommended that motorists roll their car windows when in traffic and desist from displaying valuables in their cars.
It also urged motorists to lock their doors while driving and be wary of strangers.
