Photos of the completed new Cape Coast Stadium have hit social media ahead of its official inauguration. Fiifi Tackie, a sports journalist and spokesperson for the Ayew footballing family shared photos of the stadium on Twitter, exclaiming "The New Cape Coast Stadium".
The stadium was built by Chinese contractors, IPPR International Engineering Corporation. The multi-purpose arena with a 18,000-seater capacity cost US$ 35 million.
It includes fully furnished 21 hostel rooms accommodating 2 persons in each room and separate halls for table tennis and boxing.
There are also two basketball courts, 1 handball court and 1 tennis court completed together with the football field and tartan tracks.
The stadium was built and funded by the Chinese government to the people of Cape Coast following the death of President John Atta Mills. The Chinese government will do refurbishment works of the facility after five years in 2021
